an observation

I had no shame about buying Playboy at my local newsstand right along with my Games Magazine.

I did have qualms, however, about reading it openly in my local burger joint where they know me by name and single diners eat at a long communal table.

I was conflicted, and I wasn't going to ask for one, but... "Would you like a bag?" "Yes, please."

It was for an article. ;-) My cousin's microbrewery gets a mention. I thought it was more than that, but of course the magazine comes wrapped in plastic so I couldn't check.

"I just buy it for the articles..."

I think I would have difficulty reading Playboy openly in a public place, myself, and I'm a man who likes women. I wouldn't be embarrased about buying it, reading it in private, or transporting it, but I'd worry about offending others who might be present in a public place by possibly exposing them nonconsensually to the nudie pix contained therein as I was reading. (Which is a distinct possibility, even if you *are* reading it for the articles.)

I'd be more comfortable reading a non-porn gay-themed magazine in public, especially in a queer-friendly place like Harvard Square. (Is Playboy really "porn"?)
