I work on the other end of the Longwood Medical Area from these.
I have never seen them from the inside, but they seem to be attractive --- albeit pricey. They would be good for someone doing research in the LMA who needs easy lab access at all hours of the day and night, or a medical intern. Your friend should try for a high floor in the building, though, because the intersection of Longwood and Brookline is crazy-busy all the time, and there are a lot of ambulances because of all the hospitals.
There is now a regular grocery store -- a Stop N Shop -- a few blocks away at Brigham Circle, and a Shaw's closer to Fenway Park. And that end of the LMA is pretty safe (the Brigham Circle area is less so...)
