Most people don't realize that during playback of a DVD, a complex chemical reaction occurs that removes carbon dioxide from the substrate layers of the disc itself. Without that gas, the disc itself will eventually lose clarity and eventually refuse to play! Thus in order to keep things running smoothly, you need to blow on to the DVD after each play, or in other words, re-wind it.
