I'm starting to take lunches to work; we'll see how this goes. If I get into the rhythm of it I'll keep a half-gallon of milk in the work fridge--for now I'm buying cold drinks and bringing the rest.

My goal is to cut down to one or two Bartley's burger or Cardullo's salami sandwich meals a week (hey, I could go into cholesterol withdrawal if I go TOO far), and bring in the rest. I am a creature of habit, so the rest will probably always consist of something very like what I've brought in today: 2 (maybe 3) peanut butter sandwiches (no jelly. no.), a banana, and some Ruffles from the big bag I'm leaving here. Milk (required when eating peanut butter) and gingerale from home, and as much gatorade as I want bought near work.

I could even buy powdered gatorade, except that I think that part will be strictly seasonal. Just fending off dehydration, yo.

Both healthier and less expensive. Go me.

maybe crunchy veggies instead of ruffles all the time?
especially since you live near a decent farmers' market, and they're generally cheaper than potato chips.
Not to mention less likely to end up a bag of crumbs if they get squashed.
Takes slightly more effort, and reusable containers, so perhaps not every day, yet.

The Davis Sq Farmers' market is on Wednesdays, and the Central Sq. one is Mondays...

Go you! Bananas are good for you. If you can take one with you most days, that would be a definite plus. Also apples, if you're not allergic to them. How are you with other fruits?

I keep dehydrated soup at work, and find that it's nice as a serving of vegetables (if I use black bean or split pea soup) to satisfy my five fruits or vegetables per day goal. Dehydrated potatoes are also good for that. The dehydrated stuff has the advantage of being very light and easily reconstituted if you have some way to heat water at work.

And I understand about peanut butter without jelly.

There are people with apple allergies?

Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] rivka has a very serious allergy to apples, strawberries, pears, peaches, and (most recently added to the list) blueberries. Fortunately, she can eat them if they're thoroughly cooked, which means pies are possible, but not the raw fruit.

I agree that bananas are just wonderful. I try to eat two of them myself every day.

This stupid Atkins diet I am on, I am supposed to eat no carbohydrates (and I used to drink half-gallon of milk per day minimum). And I don't really cook, so I have it down to simply getting a package of deli meat and eating the slices. It's fast, I'm not breaking these Nazi-control type rules they have.

drink lots of water, and bring, like, raw broccoli to snack on with the proteins. If you want more carb variety, the protein power diets are better than atkins. But you definitely need the water to keep your system from clogging up something fierce.
